Ch. 5 Growing Up

But while Kyle had what he considered as a decent childhood, time had flown by and his birthday was just around the corner. In fact, it was that very same day. Most surprisingly Delaney hadn’t forgotten – she even got him two apples. Kyle had never received anything from her before and when he saw them, he couldn’t help but give her a puzzled look.

– Happy B-day, kid. Why are you staring at me? Eat.

Kyle, who was left speechless at her out-of-character response, only managed to mumble:

– Thanks mum.

To him it all seemed impossible, at least until he tried the apples – they were as real for sure.

The rest of the day was spent as usual – at the gym. That place seemed like a paradise to Kyle – he could eat, sleep and take a shower for free. He would lose track of time when he was there, so, not surprisingly, he hadn’t noticed it was a few seconds past 12pm and he was about to become a teen. Good thing he had been given some worn out clothes by an old lady. They’d be sturdy enough to get him through a few years, hopefully.
